The mission of HORIZON CHARTERS is to help you develop
a relationship with the dynamic ocean environment. It is our
goal to provide you with impeccable service in the safest,
most relaxing atmosphere possible.
Our hope is that you will create many new friendships while onboard
and take home a respect and genuine concern for
the ocean and it's diverse inhabitants.
Greg Grivetto's love
for the sea was formed in his pre-teen
years as he ventured out onto the Pacific with his parents onboard
their small charter fishing boat. Having experienced
the ocean and its inhabitants at such a young age he grew
to love the liquid environment and vowed one day to share
his knowledge and love for the ocean with others.
In his 19 years as captain, he has taken divers, whale
watchers, bird watchers and sightseers the entire 750 miles
of the Pacific coast of Baja and has spent innumerable days
exploring California’s Channel Islands and offshore seamounts.
"My reason for working on and in the ocean for as many
years as I have is very simple to understand for those of
us that have been fortunate enough to spend any amount
of time at sea. I encourage everyone with a sense of
adventure to experience the ocean and embrace the
wonder of all it has to offer."

Jennifer, Greg's wife, is just as much an advocate for the
ocean and stands alongside him in all of his endeavours. "I met
Jennifer on the ocean and immediately found her as someone that has
as much an appreciation for this environment as me." With the
Grivetto family's newest addition coming just two
years ago, Greg and Jennifer are not at sea as much as before, but
are working
hard to ensure that Horizon Charters remains
at the forefront in customer service and environmental standard.
He has also travelled to four of the eight California Channel Islands
while spending over 300 diving days at the Cortes Bank. He has
had the opportunity to look into the eye of a California grey whale
in San Ignacio Lagoon. He has also viewed in awe four great white
sharks from the safety of a cage, swum in a school of ten soupfin
sharks, frolicked with 50 sea lion pups at Santa Barbara Island,
swam with bottlenose dolphins, enjoyed 3 finback whales feeding
on baitfish 20 miles from San Diego, stared into the eye of 100
pound bluefin tuna as it slowly cruised past, kissed a hornedhead
turbot on its fishey little lips in San Diego Bay and has been
pooped on by more seagulls than he can count.
Having witnessed all of those amazing large creatures, he still
enjoys watching a sea cucumber digging through the detritus
or a senorita fish at a cleaning station. He will never lose his
love for any animal or plant in the ocean, big or small!
Greg is an avid SCUBA and freediver and enjoys taking people to
the place that he calls home. "I have taken thousands of people
diving in my career, from individuals experiencing the ocean for
the first time to hard-core freedivers looking for the world record
tuna. No matter what each individual's objective, they are still
aboard my boat because of their fascination with the ocean and
its inhabitants."
"Each time I travel onto the Pacific I learn something new, which is
what intrigues me the most. It is as though the Pacific Ocean is an
ever evolving encyclopaedia ." |
